DeKalb Co. government readying for Irma, urges citizens to sign up for emergency alerts

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

DeKalb County Government officials are preparing for the landfall and potential impacts of Hurricane Irma.

The government is working with internal departments and local agencies to make sure readiness and response are available, and this includes reviewing department plans, operations and conducting assessments of infrastructure throughout the county.

Officials are encouraging citizens to sign up for CodeRED, an emergency system used to call, email or text in the event of an emergency or severe weather warning. Notifications are based on your location at the time of registration in the system, and all of your personal information is kept private.

Government officials are encouraging citizens to be prepared and stay informed and to be aware of false information on social media. Only rely on official sources of information.
