FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

The University of North Alabama has until September 22 to respond to allegations in a federal lawsuit. A former student, identified as Jane Doe, filed a Title IX lawsuit against the school alleging administrators covered up a sexual assault.

The lawsuit stated former Professor David Dickerson sexually abused the student during an intern sales competition trip to Orlando.

According to the filing, Dickerson “pawed and grabbed at her” while she was in the hotel pool. The reported victim said two other students took pictures of the incident from their hotel balcony.

Doe said Dickerson invited her and a female roommate to dinner. The professor is accused of buying both women alcoholic drinks before the roommate left the restaurant. Doe claimed she was escorted back to the hotel by Dickerson where she was in and out of consciousness.

The lawsuit stated Doe was afraid to return to campus. The filing also referred to Dickerson’s previous arrest for rape and sexual assault. Those charges were dismissed.
