JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The National Weather Service has confirmed the storm that blew though the Gulf Park Estates neighborhood Wednesday morning spun up an EF0 tornado.

Dozens of home owners, county work crews and private tree contractors faced that challenge on Thursday.

The sound of wood chippers and chain saws provided the soundtrack just one day after the twister in Gulf Park Estates, as county work crews and home owners tackle the substantial clean-up project.

“We have people volunteering to help. All my friends have asked me about helping, all my family. We've had plenty of people coming in to help,” said Sharon Kirk.

Like many home owners, the Kirk family faces its share of property damage from Wednesday's tornado.

“The trees on the house. Our chimney was knocked over, that flue is broke. Our sky lights are broken. We've still got damage to the front porch. We're waiting on insurance right now.”

Downed trees make up the biggest portion of storm debris. Rick Shaughnessy was thankful to have a tree removal contractor on the job this day after.

“So far it looks pretty good, just got the tree off the roof there. Got one little shingle tab turned around a little bit. But other than that, it's good to go,” he said.

Residents say they can deal with cleaning up the debris and the mess -they are most thankful the storm did not cause any injuries.

“Nobody was hurt. There was a lot of people outside, there was a lot of people around here home. But uh, God is good,” said Kirk.
