GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Police have identified the suspect who managed to steal multiple cars, including a patrol car while handcuffed, before he ultimately crashed in Gwinnett County Thursday.  The suspect, Joshua Scott Jones, 22, is facing multiple charges.

The incident, which stretched into Norcross, Tucker and Duluth, started around 1:15 p.m. when Gwinnett County police officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run accident on Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Britt Road in Norcross.

The suspect fled the scene in a box truck, according to authorities, but was ultimately captured by two witnesses until an officer arrived.

Police say when the officer arrived, he saw three men on the ground and pulled out his Taser, but eventually learned that the two witnesses were holding the suspect down until authorities arrived.

The suspect was handcuffed and put into the back of a patrol car, according to authorities. However, police say as the officer was walking back to his patrol car, he saw that the suspect maneuvered his hands to the front, squeezed through the window cage of the patrol car, jumped into the driver's seat and was able to drive away at 1:57 p.m.

The patrol car was being tracked the entire time by the 911 call center, according to authorities.

Police say the patrol car was found at a nearby golf course at 2:06 p.m., but by the time officers arrived, the suspect had already stolen a Ford F150 pickup truck from a maintenance building.

Police say the suspect drove the Ford F150 to a Taco Bell, where he then stole a blue and sliver pickup truck and drove to Duluth.

The suspect was allegedly involved in several hit-and-runs at a Walmart in Duluth, before driving back southbound on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Because this vehicle had the victim's electronic device inside, police say the victim was able to provide them with updates on the suspect's location.

Police say when the suspect was just south of Technology Parkway South on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, an officer performed a PIT maneuver. The truck flipped onto its side at 2:36 p.m., according to authorities.

Police say the man was still in handcuffs when he got out of the truck.

He was taken by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center, and was accompanied by a police officer.

Police say the suspect was involved in at least six hit-and-runs and damaged four patrol cars.

The name of the suspect has not been released.
