My Take - Cell Phones and Cars

As I drove home on 565 the other day I saw something that was pretty amazing.  As I merged into traffic there was a car in front of me who was clearly not paying attention.  As I passed the car I noticed their head down as they were obviously doing something on their phone.    Making a call while driving is legal but texting, emailing or instant messaging is not.  In my 15-20 minute drive home there were 5 or 6 cars that were looking down doing something on their phone as they drove anywhere from 60-75 MPH.  One person was holding their phone up above the steering wheel while driving with his forearms.  I guess that was his way of at least trying to keep an eye on the road.  This phone usage thing while driving seems to be epidemic.    I told myself if I were an unmarked police car I could have had a heyday giving out tickets.  I would have felt good about it because driving 70 MPH without paying attention is dangerous.  Maybe technology needs to disable phones when a car is moving at a fast rate.  I'm sure the technology could be created that could make that work.  I'm Dave Thomason, that's my take, what's yours?
