Huntsville to host 2018 & 2019 Alabama State Games

Huntsville will host thousands of athletes for the 2018 and 2019 Alabama State Games.  

The games will be held in Huntsville on June 8-10, 2018 and June 7-9, 2019. The city estimates the event will generate more than $1.5 million in economic impact.

The Alabama State Games, which is part of the National Congress of State Games, is described as a multi-sport event for kids and adults according to www.alagames.net:

The Alabama State Games are part of a nationwide network of state games with a national organization called the National Congress of State Games.The state games programs began in the early 1980s as part of a grass root effort to get more athletes involved and aware of Olympic sports and to encourage them to possibly pursue participating in the Olympic Games. 

The games started in the early 1980s as a way to foster participation in the Olympic Games. The 2012 games featured more than 6,000 athletes competing in 25 sports.  

The 2017 games are taking place in Dothan this June.
