Madison ranks as best Alabama city to live in according to report

MADISON, AL (WAFF) -

The city of Madison is the best place to live in Alabama according to an online ranking published by Niche.

The 2017 Best Place to Live rankings were compiled using census information, education scorecards and crime reports.

Each city is scored in 12 categories. Here is how Madison scored:

  • Public Schools: A+
  • Housing: A+
  • Good for Families: A+
  • Jobs: A
  • Cost of Living: A-
  • Outdoor Activities: B+
  • Crime & Safety: B-
  • Nightlife: B-
  • Diversity: A-
  • Weather: B+
  • Health & Fitness: B+
  • Commute: A-

The online survey offers the following summary of Madison: 

This town is booming. It's growing so fast, we don't know what to do with it! Our community is much more diverse than most in Alabama because of a nearby army base and loads of engineering opportunities.

Cities listed right below Madison include Vestavia, Homewood and Mountain Brook. 

Huntsville came in at #11. Florence, which was ranked #17, beat out Birmingham, Montgomery and Mobile.
