DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur City Schools, like other school systems statewide, is having problems finding teachers in certain disciplines.

On April 26, during the district's job fair, school officials will place an emphasis on recruiting teachers with math, science, special education and English-as-a-Second Language certifications.

"We know there is a shortage of math and science teachers across the state, and we’re trying to get a jump-start,” DCS Human Resources Supervisor Yvette Evans said.

For the second consecutive year, the school district is hiring with the superintendent’s office in transition. Last year, the board was hiring a replacement for Ed Nichols, who was retiring as superintendent. This year, the board will be conducting its staffing efforts with interim Superintendent Dale Edwards, of Guntersville, in place because Dan Brigman resigned after completing 10 months of a three-year contract that paid him $175,000 annually.
