MARSHALL COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

After a rain delay, construction is underway on a new football field in Marshall County.

Asbury becomes the final high school in the county to get their own football field.

Crews were expected to begin weeks ago, but wet weather has prevented that.

But this week, they finally got started. They've finally been moving dirt this week for the construction of a new football field for Asbury High School.

The team played every game last year away.

But the school system has come up with $900,000 to build the field, press box and fence.

School officials had previously said some things, such as the lockers and a concession stand, would have to be temporary buildings until they could be finished at a later date.

But for the coaches and the community, it's just getting more exciting all the way to fall.

"I think that once this is established and once people drive by here and see bleachers and see lights and they see, especially on Friday nights when the lights click on and you've got people pulling in here to park, that's going to stir even more excitement," said Asbury assistant football coach Matt Harris.

The field was expected to be complete by the fall games.

No word if the delay will have an impact.
