ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

A search is underway for a man who Athens police say stole expensive equipment from Dixie Auto Parts on U.S. 72

Police say the suspect was looking at a trailer and mower at the store at about 11 a.m. Tuesday. Employees say he agreed to buy the equipment, and they hooked the trailer up to his jeep and loaded the mower. Police say the man left when the employee went into the business to get the paperwork and start the payment process.

The mower is described as a Toro Titan valued at $6964. The trailer was a black single-axle valued at $650.

The suspect is a white male in his late 40s, approximately 6 feet tall, balding with a mustache. He has a full-sleeve tattoo on his left arm. He was last seen wearing a neon green shirt and jeans. He was driving a 200-2017 Jeep Wrangler two-door silver with a black top. The jeep may have a Tennessee tag.
