HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

It was a special day for a Huntsville teen who had his Make-A-Wish granted.

19-year-old Ian Thomson was going through kidney failure due to Alport syndrome four years ago. He's since received a new kidney, and now a new car, sort of.

Make-A-Wish, along with the Women's Auxiliary of North Alabama and Alabama Independent Automobile Dealers Association, raised enough money to completely remodel Thomson's 2007 GMC Sierra. Among the work done was a new paint job, LED lights on top of the cab, a new sound system, LCD touchscreen radio, chrome wheels, and white camo interior.

“I was surprised it looked as good as it did,” said Thomson.

Thomson said he was overwhelmed with joy and not used to being the center of attention. He wanted to thank everyone who donated to the cause.

Roger Fields of Dealers Auto Auction said he pooled the car dealers he works with, and it took almost no time to raise money for Thomson's wish.

“Car dealers have some deep pockets when it comes to giving and charity,” said Fields.

Thomson attended Grissom High School before he began having kidney troubles. He's got his GED and is looking at Calhoun Community College to further his education.
