CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Authorities have captured the suspect in a home invasion that left his accomplice dead in Cullman County.

Robert L. Kimbrough, 27, of Arab is charged with felony murder and first-degree burglary. He is currently being held without bond in the Cullman County Detention Center.

Cullman County deputies say Kimbrough and Jonathan Smith broke into a home on County Road 1759 Tuesday morning. Investigators say an altercation ensued and they exchanged gunfire with the homeowner.

The homeowner suffered minor cuts and abrasions.

Smith was fatally shot. His body was found in a vehicle off Highway 67 and County Road 1755 shortly after leaving the home.

Deputies say Kimbrough fled the scene. He was arrested Thursday.

Investigators say the three men all knew each other and the homeowner was targeted.

"We believe this is an isolated incident that targeted individual at that residence. The community is safe. We have extra deputies out in the area. There were troopers and city police out here, but we do have extra deputies in the area and we don believe the community is safe," said Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry.

The homeowner said the suspects held a gun to his baby's head.

"I was asleep on the couch and he broke in the house and held a gun on me. He jumped on me, beat me with a gun, tried to choke me," he said.
