The maroon and white are in the Lone Star State. Mississippi State continued Final Four preparations Thursday. The Bulldogs practiced and met the press at the American Airlines Center.
33-4 MSU faces undefeated UConn Friday night. The Huskies enter on a 111 game winning streak. The Bulldogs are the underdogs. They've been counted out by national pundits in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight, and the same can be said in the Final Four.
Senior Breanna Richardson said "we're out to prove everybody wrong. I feel like with us, we've been trying to garner our respect all year long. So for us we just gotta go out there and make a statement for ourselves."
This week is a homecoming for six Bulldogs. Head coach Vic Schaefer (Houston), Blair Schaefer (College Station), Dominique Dillingham (Spring), Ketara Chapel (Temple), and Teaira McCowan (Brenham) all grew up in Texas.
Ketara said "It's really special. I grew up 2 hours from here, so to have my family and friends be able to watch me play in my last year is very special."
Blair added: "First Final Four in Texas, it feels great. Some of my friends I grew up with are coming, they're really excited. And I think it's just awesome to see that we made it this far as a team, but we're not satisfied."
MSU and UConn play Friday night at 9:00pm CT. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN2 and online at ESPN3.com.
