(WAFF) -

It's the day after Christmas, but people are still in the giving and spending mood, as crowds flocked to local stores to take advantage of after Christmas sales that extend the holiday shopping season past Christmas Day.

Parkway Place Mall in Huntsville was filled with stores posting 50%, 60%, 70%, and even some 80% discounts.

"You get a lot of deals shopping after Christmas instead of before," said Maddox Meeks.

"I got money this year, and so I'd rather spend it afterward, you can find a lot, a lot better deals after Christmas than before," said Anisa Rollo.

Some shoppers found huge discounts just too good to pass up.

"When you go to the store and they ask, 'Did you find everything you were looking for?' I say, 'Yes, and things I wasn't looking for," said Maggie Barnes.

Mall Manager Joe Black at Parkway Place said that with returns, exchanges, and people spending Christmas money and gift cards, today ranks right up there with Black Friday as one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

Gift returns also mean that some retailers will re-stock lightly used goods as 'refurbished'. Savvy shoppers should look for open-box deals on televisions, laptops and other electronics in the coming weeks.
Black said the day after Christmas is the final big shopping day of the calendar year, and everything should calm down after today's over. Black says Retailers offering the discounts say After-Christmas crowds are huge for business.

"People are coming in, they want more, and some people are still celebrating and doing their Christmas time today, also to return, so it's a big day," said Isabelle Allison, manager of Sports Mania.

Shoppers were seizing the opportunity to get everything Santa didn't bring them.

"We’re just getting everything that we didn’t get for Christmas,” said Meeks.

“I wanted some new clothes and shoes, and my sister's looking for shoes.”

A lot of shoppers were out making returns Monday.
A few reminders to make your return or exchange experience issue-free, you need to remember your receipt... OR if you ordered online, it's good to have the order invoice number and your shipping tracking number.... Because almost everywhere you shop: no receipt, means no return.
