HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The Madison County Salvation Army says two of its red kettles, used to collect donations for those in need, were stolen on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bell Ringer Eddie Hillis was robbed while asking for donations in front of a Huntsville Kroger off Logan Drive.

"I stepped inside the foyer and all of a sudden this guy grabbed the stand and threw it in the back of a white SUV and sped off,” said Hillis.

“Everything happened so fast I could not get an accurate description of the vehicle.  All I know is it was a white SUV."

A second kettle was stolen from the Walmart on University.

The Salvation Army for Madison County serves more than 125,000 meals and provides 91,000 nights of shelter a year.

The money raised from the red kettle campaigns funds these efforts.

If you have any information on the thefts, contact the Salvation Army at (256) 683-8777.
