NORMAL, AL (WAFF) -

Basketball legend Charles Barkley extended a monetary gift of $1 million to  Alabama A&M University.

University officials acknowledged their appreciation of the former NBA Hall of Famer and TNT analyst's generous contribution to the school.

Alabama A&M said that the donation is the largest individual gift the school has yet to receive in its 141-year history.

“This is a transformational gift to the institution and a true measure of Mr. Barkley’s commitment to advancing educational opportunities," said President Andrew Hugine, Jr.

Dr. Hugine added that the gift will strengthen the fiscal future of A&M, as the gift will help to boost them well over their capital fundraising efforts.

According to ESPN's Facebook page, Barkley also gave an additional $1 million to Clark Atlanta University.
