HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Madison County man sentenced to death will be executed Thursday, December 8th.

Ronald Bert Smith shot and killed convenience store clerk Casey Wilson during a robbery on November 8, 1994.

The Alabama Department of Corrections confirmed the execution will take place at 6:00p.m. at the Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore.

A jury recommended life in prison without the possibility of parole, but the judge sentenced Smith to death.

A U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the judge's decision in 2013.

Another North Alabama man, Tommy Arthur, was set to be executed in November of 2016.

A last minute stay of execution from the U.S. Supreme Court forced the state to delay until further orders from the court.
