IDER, AL (WAFF) -

At least six people are in the hospital in critical condition after being injured due to severe storms in the area early Wednesday morning.

A survey team with the National Weather Service confirms a tornado hit Ider just after midnight. Preliminary information indicates most of the damage was from EF-1 and EF-2 activity, but some EF-3 activity was observed. Click here for the National Weather Service report.

The storms completely destroyed Ider Christian Daycare Academy and the home behind the daycare where the six people were injured.

Four out of those six were critically injured according to a family member on Facebook. One of the four is still unconscious with another unable to walk, another victim can't feel their left side, and another with a broken pelvis and femur.

At least 10 people were hospitalized and 25 buildings destroyed.

The EMA Director of DeKalb County says the victims lived in the home behind daycare and were owners of daycare.

EMA says a total of seven people, including four adults and three children, lived in the home.

We've learned that four other people in the Ider area were also injured due to the storms.

DeKalb County EMA Director Anthony Clinton said 10 people were injured in the Cartersville community. One of those people had critical injuries.

Between 50 and 60 homes were damaged, and 25 of those were destroyed. Fifteen chicken houses were wiped out.

There was more damage in the county on Highway 117 between Ider and Flat Rock.
