Man arrested in Huntsville shooting, police pursuit

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A wanted man is in police custody in connection to shooting in Huntsville Wednesday afternoon.

Madison County dispatch received notification that a gunshot victim arrived at Huntsville Hospital by personal vehicle at about 1 p.m. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening.

Patrol deputies responded and secured the victim’s vehicle. Investigators developed information that led to a location in the 200 block of Empire Lane in Huntsville. The crime scene was located there.

Investigators developed probable cause that pointed to James Hoyt Langford, 32, as the suspect. Langford was apprehended shortly before 2:30 p.m. after leading deputies on a short vehicle pursuit on U.S. 231 north.

Deputies say he will be charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and first-degree assault. He also has outstanding arrest warrants for probation violations.

Despite a sentence of 40 years to life, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency voted to release him from prison into home arrest. Family members of the victims are concerned for the safety of the community, as are new members of the Clemency Board. CBS 5 Investigates videotaped Huff riding a bike through his Tucson neighborhood. There are no restrictions placed on his proximity to children.
