MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A horrific case of animal hoarding is under investigation in Madison County.

Two of the dogs rescued have died from complications of kennel cough, while several more are with a local rescue group.

Officials said the dogs were living in feces and urine and never were taken outside. The estimated it had happened over three to five years.

Officials with A New Leash On Life said they will rehabilitate the dogs and reverse the problem.

"The goal now is to get them socialized with people to be able to walk them on a leash to be able to approach them without them being afraid and find them wonderful loving homes," said Diane Radoci of A New Leash on Life.

The dogs have a long road to recovery and workers expect them to be adoptable within the next few months.
