GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - As many as 50 new jobs could soon be on their way to Guntersville. An aircraft maintenance facility is announcing plans to locate a new facility there at the airport.
City officials had hoped that expanding the runway would create an economic development impact. This could be a start.
Global Aviation Solutions is looking to build two hangars on the south end of the Guntersville airport over the next six to 9 months. Company CEO Darrell Kindley said several locations across the U.S. were considered, but Guntersville was chosen because of the new runway and the ability to grow.
Kindley said they've purchased 16 acres of adjoining property to allow for that growth and will be considering moving the corporate headquarters to Guntersville at a later date.
The company provides maintenance upgrades to both aircraft and helicopters.
They plan to begin construction as soon as a lease agreement with the city is complete. The city council is expected to discuss that agreement in their meeting on Monday.
