SCOTTSBORO, AL (WAFF) -

A walking trail in Scottsboro is getting an improvement.

The walking trail at Goose Pond is just over a mile at 6,000 feet. Now the city is looking to increase its length by over a half-mile more with 3,000 more feet.

But city officials are hoping it will continue a great view of Lake Guntersville.

The city received a grant last year, and this week signed off on accepting the $160,000 grant to make it a reality.

Scottsboro Mayor Melton Potter says the trail that runs along Lake Guntersville is looking to be extended along the waterway to Highway 79.

“It just made sense to extend that. Again, it's heavily used and it was just a great fit for what we needed. We're always looking to extend walking trails and that one was one that we looked at,” Potter. said.

Potter estimates construction will begin early next spring.
