Toney mobile home fire being investigated as homicide

TONEY, AL (WAFF) -

The body found in a burning mobile home two weeks ago is being investigated as a homicide.

The body of Danny Ray Smith, 51, was found in the home's ruins on Carter Grove Road in Toney on Sept. 30.

Authorities said there were no preliminary indications of foul play at the scene. The autopsy has suggested he was killed before the fire.

The official cause of death is not yet known.

The Madison County Sheriff's Office is still looking for witnesses. Contact them if you have information on this case.

The man who first spotted the fire said he saw flames on the side and front window. He said the front porch was engulfed when he ran around it to call 911.
