MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

Calling all first responders from law enforcement to paramedics and firefighters. First Baptist Church in Decatur is hosting a training event for the men and women who may encounter those on the Autism Spectrum.

The event is free to all attendees at First Baptist Church in Decatur on October 11 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Organizers of the event extend their invitation to all Morgan County first responders and those throughout the Tennessee Valley.

For individuals with Autism, learning to interact with first responders is critical. On the other hand, it is just as essential for first responders to understand Autism and be prepared to respond effectively and safely to situations that arise involving individuals on the spectrum.

The training will provide first responders with information and guidelines for communicating with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in emergency situations.
