Man identified in fatal 4-vehicle crash on I-65

DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama State Troopers are investigating a four-vehicle crash on I-65 southbound at the Tennessee River Bridge

John Connor Strickland, 21, was killed when his 2006 Ford Ranger struck a 2007 Volvo stopped in traffic and went airborne off the bridge.

Strickland was pronounced dead at the scene.

Neither the Volvo's driver nor the other driver's in the other two vehicles involved were injured.

The crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Oct. 9, around the 337-mile marker, just three miles north of Decatur.

Both north and southbound lanes were closed momentarily for recovery. The wreck blocked the southbound lanes of I-65 causing traffic to stall.

The investigation is ongoing.

    A ground search ensued that lasted about four hours and covered approximately six miles, ending a few hundred yards east of Hays Mill Road where the suspects were caught in a hunting stand/shoot house.
