BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

The Marshall County city of Boaz will have a new mayor. After 16 years in office, Tim Walker is out and David Dyar is in.

Much like what happened in Albertville four years ago, there were sweeping changes in Boaz from the bottom all the way to the top Tuesday night.

Dyar welcomed new councilman Jeff Davis to the party tonight after both men succeeded in their campaigns. Dyar beat Walker approximately two to one as voters came to the polls with an apparent mandate for change. Dyar won with 1,447 votes. Walker got 732 votes.

And voter turnout was strong with nearly as many voters turning out in this runoff election as they did in the August municipal election.

Dyar said his message was one of hope and opportunity, and he's thankful the voters bought into that. Dyar said he will be resigning from his job at the end of the month to be a full time mayor and is ready to lead.

"I'm going to have to make some decisions, and they may not be politically correct, but they will be right and we'll move on and we'll move this city forward and they'll begin to see some changes for the better," Dyar said.

Dyar takes over as mayor on Nov. 1.
