LIMESTONE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A single-vehicle crash in Limestone County claimed the life of an Athens man Friday morning.

Alabama State Troopers say Michael Shannon Thomas, 48, was killed when the 1985 Chevrolet Corvette he was driving left the roadway, struck a fence and overturned. It happened on at 6:20 a.m. on Tillman Mill Road about four miles north of Athens.

Troopers say Thomas was not using a seat belt and was ejected.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers say that although the crash is still under investigation, the preliminary investigation indicates alcohol was a factor.
