HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The U.S. Army Materiel Command (AMC) will conduct a change of command ceremony where Gen. Dennis L. Via will relinquish command to Lt. Gen. Gustave F. Perna, who will be promoted to General in a ceremony prior to the change of command.

Perna will be the 19th Commanding General of AMC. Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Mark Milley will preside over the ceremony Friday at 10 a.m. at Parade Field, AMC Headquarters, Redstone Arsenal.

Gen. Dennis L. Via assumed command of AMC in August 2012. Via was the first AMC commander to serve his entire tenure at Redstone Arsenal.

Lt. Gen. Gustave F. Perna's previous assignment was U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-4, a position he held since September 2014. Prior to joining the Army staff, Perna served two years as AMC's Deputy Chief of Staff, G-3/4, at Redstone Arsenal.

Perna will be promoted to General during a private ceremony just prior to the change of command. Perna will be available for a brief media interview immediately following the change of command ceremony.

AMC is one of three Army commands, and impacts or has a presence in all 50 states and 153 countries. The command equips, sustains and enables the warfighter through technology, acquisition support, materiel development and logistics projection across the spectrum of joint military operations.

If a soldier drives it, flies it, wears it, shoots it, communicates with it, or eats it, AMC produces and provides it.
