New policies include the closing of the Drake Street gate at 6 p.m. daily, new visitor registration guidelines, added lights across campus and an increase in security officer patrols.

The university will also hold a safety rally on Thursday night at 5 p.m. on the Quad.

The campus is also urging any student who feels unsafe to utilize a new escort system. Students just need to call the Department of Public Safety at (256) 372-5555.
