Alabama A&M outlines new security following sexual assault reports

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama A&M University is making changes to its security protocols following three reported sexual assaults. 

The president, Andrew Hugine Jr., outlined the new plan in a letter addressed to the Alabama A&M community.

New policies include the closing of the Drake Street gate at 6 p.m. daily, new visitor registration guidelines, added lights across campus and an increase in security officer patrols. 

The university will also hold a safety rally on Thursday night at 5 p.m. on the Quad. 

The campus is also urging any student who feels unsafe to utilize a new escort system. Students just need to call the Department of Public Safety at (256) 372-5555.
