HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

WAFF 48 News has discovered a third sexual assault in two months at Alabama A&M University.

Per federal law, the university is required to keep a public crime log of all criminal acts students report. On that federally mandated crime log, we discovered a third sexual assault that was reported on Sept. 23. A student reported a sexual assault off campus that happened in August.

Experts with Crisis Services of North Alabama said it's common for people to see other peoples' assault experiences and feel compelled to come forward with their own experiences.

A string of related crimes is often investigated by the same department, but last weekend's kidnapping and sodomy report made by an Alabama A&M student is different.

Huntsville police confirmed they are investigating a sodomy case after campus police requested HPD to take it over. According to Huntsville police, last weekend's victim was dropped off back on campus after being kidnapped and raped by the same masked men who took the victim.

According to Huntsville police the suspects were described as black males. One was wearing a red shirt with black pants, and the other was wearing a white t-shirt with black pants. They were driving either a white or tan colored 4-door car. It was possibly a Ford Crown Victoria or Chevrolet Impala with all four hubcaps missing.

University officials said “lighting is being added and additional gates are being closed. There are increased walking patrols and the university will implement a buddy escort system. Students are also reminded to walk in groups, particularly at night.”
