BOAZ, AL (WAFF) -

What was meant to be a traffic stop for failure to use a turn signal turned into a police chase?.

Officers with the Boaz Police Department pursued a vehicle that refused to stop for a traffic stop overnight.

The vehicle made several turns through city streets.

After crossing AL-75, the vehicle continued to elude police onto Old Oneonta Road where the pursued vehicle began throwing sparks and debris hitting the patrol car.

The vehicle did leave the road on Nixon Chapel Road just past Wright Road.

Officers did lose sight of the vehicle for a brief moment before finding it crashed into a tree.

The driver, Christopher Alan Gibson, fled the scene but was found 30 feet away laying face down in the tall grass.

He denied being in the vehicle at any point during the pursuit.

After a search of the vehicle, police found syringes, a morphine sulphate pill and over four grams of methamphetamine.

Both Etowah County Drug Task Force and Albertville police helped with the arrested of the suspect.
