AUBURN, AL (WAFF) - Fans needed it. The program needed it. And after an apparent LSU touchdown as time expired was officially reviewed and reversed, Auburn celebrated their first SEC win of the season 18-13 in front of a sellout crowd at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The win snapped a six-game home losing streak to SEC teams. Daniel Carlson scored every point for the Tigers, with six field goals from 51, 29, 29, 31, 37, and 29 yards.
LSU and Les Miles had a chance to win the game with one second left. An illegal shift penalty against LSU left the Bayou Bengal's with a fourth-down play from the 15-yard line. LSU quarterback Danny Etling rolled out and connected with receiver DJ Shark in the back of the end zone. But officials reviewed the last play, and the Tigers center didn't get the play off before time expired preserving Auburn's win.
"I'm just so glad to get a win for Auburn," Junior Defensive End Carl Lawson said after the game. "This is a special place, and we owe the fans a win. I can't even speak on it right now, It's so good to see this place happy, so much energy, when auburn's winning it's such a beautiful place."
"It's real good to win a game like this," Head Coach Gus Malzahn said during his post-game press conference. "Hard fought, I think it will give us momentum moving forward."
Auburn will step out of SEC play and face Louisnana-Monroe Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
