HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A suspect is in custody following a car chase involving Huntsville police. Agents attempted to stop a suspect after witnessing an alleged drug transaction.

Huntsville police were sent on a chase through parts of North Huntsville after undercover drug agents caught a man during a drug deal. Police say the suspect led them on the chase down Pulaski Pike and ended in a ditch off Sparkman Drive, near Highlands Elementary School around 1 p.m.

It took up to 10 officers to apprehend the suspect, who was arrested at the scene.

Authorities say, as always, they put safety first.

"With it being close to a school we had enough time to get officers with stop sticks and spike strips that were here in the area. He wasn't going any further than this spot right here," said Sgt. Chad Bryant with Huntsville Police Department.

No students were injured as school was still in session.

Police say we can expect a long list of charges.
