DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur police have arrested a woman accused of being on drugs during her pregnancy.

Jasmine Nicole Hunt, 20, gave birth to a baby girl at Decatur Morgan Hospital Parkway Campus on Aug. 5. Police say the baby tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol at the time of her birth. Tetrahydrocannabinol is the active substance in marijuana.

A joint investigation was conducted by the Morgan County Department of Human Resources and the Decatur Police Department. They determined that Hunt had smoked marijuana during her pregnancy and was fully aware that she was pregnant at the time.

Police obtained an arrest warrant against Hunt on Tuesday charging her with chemical endangerment of a child. She turned herself in right afterward.

Hunt was later transferred to the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $2,500 bond.

Police say it's unknown at this time if the child will suffer any long-term effects or disabilities as a result of the drug exposure.

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
