Alabama A&M denies hotel plans

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The campaign for Huntsville City Councilman Richard Showers campaign has proposed that a hotel be built on the campus of Alabama A&M University. University officials say that isn't the case, however.

A paid campaign consultant said it was practically a done deal, but that may not be the case.

Ocie Maddox is listed as receiving at least $2,000 from Richard Showers' campaign for consulting and advertising. He led the unveiling of a master plan for north Huntsville Tuesday night, during which he mentioned a hotel project for Alabama A&M.

"How many of you all have heard of the hotel coming to Alabama A&M University. Who thought that was unfinished business. Well guess what. It's done," he said.

A representative from Alabama A&M said the college is not building a hotel.

Both Showers and Maddox declined  to comment on this. WAFF 48 News is still waiting to hear back from his campaign manager.

It's not yet known if any of the plans discussed Tuesday night will be discussed at Thursday's city council meeting. WAFF will bring you updates.
