AUBURN, AL (WAFF) - It appears that Madison native and former Madison Academy standout Kerryon Johnson is the guy at running back for Auburn.
Kerryon, with 94 yards and the Tigers' only score of their game last week against Clemson, appeared to improve as the game went on, scoring his touchdown in the second half. Auburn Offensive Coordinator Rhett Lashlee praised Johnson and acknowledged opportunities for other backs like Kamryn Pettway.
"The good thing that we find out is that KJ (Kerryon Johnson) can carry a load," Lashlee said. "He got better as the game went on. But he didn't have as many carries in the first half because of the way the first half went for us. Typically he will have more carries by halftime for us. Kamryn Pettway will get more opportunities and he will have to."
H-back Chandler Cox and Madison Academy standout and true freshman Malik Miller are also in the mix to contribute at the running back position.
Auburn faces Arkansas State Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
