2016 Huntsville City Council & Board of Education races

Huntsville residents showed up to the polls to vote in the municipal elections on new city council and school board members for districts 1 and 5. The polls opened up at 7 a.m. and closed at 7 p.m.

Huntsville City Council

District 1:  At 9 p.m., it was determined there will likely be a runoff election between Devyn Keith and incumbent Richard Showers heading into the October election.

  • Devyn Keith 44%
  • Incumbent Richard Showers 26%
  • Michelda Johnson 26%
  • Robert Hewlett 3%
  • Peter Proctor 2%

District 5: Current Councilman Will Culver will likely stay in his current position.

  • Incumbent Will Culver 55%
  • John Meredith 37%
  • Jacob Anders 4%
  • Thad Clarke 3%

Huntsville Board of Education

District 1: Michelle Watkins will take the seat over Board Member Laurie McCaulley. 

  • Michelle Watkins 63%
  • Incumbent Laurie McCaulley 32%
  • Mary Sawyer 6%

District 5: Pam Hill is in the lead for the position of the council. 

  • Pam Hill 56%
  • Carlos Matthews 44%
