Kendrick in 30th place of Forrest Wood Cup

(WAFF) -

Grant, Alabama native Jay Kendrick was out on the water around the Elk River area Thursday morning to try to find some bass.

Kendrick is one of 50 anglers in the Forrest Wood Cup with $300,000 on the line. Kendrick weighed in at 8 pounds, 9 ounces, which is good enough for
30th place after day one.

“It's the middle of the summertime in North Alabama and It's hot as blazes out there,” Kendrick said before weighing in at the Von Braun Center. "We
went through a gallon and a half of water, trying to stay hydrated and putting ice in the live well and trying to keep the fish healthy. it's just a struggle, it's just a grind."

Anglers pick things back up from Ditto Landing at 7 a.m. Friday.
