DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -

Decatur firefighters cooked up a free lunch to support for the city's police officers Wednesday. A lot of people stopped by Fire Station No. 5 to show their appreciation.

Lt Proncey Robertson said officers do their job without any expectation of thanks, but that they are thankful for the support they get from Decatur residents.

"It means a lot to us. The public here in the Decatur, Morgan County area has just been incredible with their support to law enforcement," Robertson said.

"Police officers go through a lot. Across the country, you see what they're exposed to, the things that have happened in other big cities, and we just wanted to give them a time they could come in here and relax," said said Bobby Peavler, a firefighter with Decatur Fire and Rescue.

Peavler said Holaway's Market, the Decatur Wal-Mart, The Brick Deli, Simply Delicious and other businesses donated food for the event.
