FIRST ALERT: Scattered storms expected for Tuesday afternoon

FIRST ALERT: Scattered storms expected for Tuesday afternoon

(WAFF) - Heat continues to be the big weather story of the week. Highs will run in the mid-to-upper 90s with heat indices climbing above 100°.

The most dangerous heat looks like it will be in the Valley Thursday and Friday with highs close to 100° and a heat index of 106°+ possible on those days. Both days may become First Alert Weather Days due to the dangerous heat we are forecasting.

We're starting this morning on the muggy side with temperatures in the low/the mid-70s. We'll warm up quickly, and highs should push into the mid-90s.  Scattered storms will develop this afternoon.

While storm coverage should remain hit-or-miss in nature, this afternoon will feature the highest chance of rain for the rest of the work week.  Any storms will fade away this evening, and we should be dry overnight as skies clear.

The heat continues to build for the mid-week. Highs Wednesday will be in the mid-to-upper 90s with a heat index around 103°.  Only a stray shower or storm is possible each afternoon into the weekend. Make sure you're staying hydrated if you'll be working outside at any point this week.

Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning if possible. Don't forget about pets either they need a shady spot to rest and cool water to drink on these hot afternoons.

The heat won't be as oppressive for the weekend, but the mid/the upper 90s can still be expected.  Rain chances remain isolated through the weekend and into next week.
