2 AL campers arrested for 600-acre fire in Colorado

Boulder County, Colorado (WAFF) -

Two men from Vinemont were arrested for arson in Colorado according to our NBC affiliate KUSA.

The men, 28-year-old Jimmy Suggs and 26-year-old Zackary Kuykendall, were camping in Boulder County when they lit an overnight campfire Thursday according to the sheriff's office.  The two were reportedly on private property. 

Officials said the fire grew to more than 600 acres and forced almost 2,000 people to evacuate since was reported Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The men face fourth-degree arson charges and were booked into the Boulder County Jail. 

Deputies say the suspects and a woman, who does not face charges, were camping on private property and lit a campfire overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

According to the sheriff's office, the two Cullman County men did not ensure the fire was property extinguished before they left. That's when the winds induced by the hot dry weather made the fire spread.

Three homes have been lost so far to the blaze and and the sheriff's office said the number may increase.
