HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

If your child has a fascination with all things science, you might want to plan a family outing at the Space and Rocket Center. This place is one which will exceed the imagination. It has a working storm shelter complete with hands-on safety games and a lot more.

"We are standing here in the middle of Summer Smart Play, which is an exhibit we are going to have open until July 25," said Director of Communications for the Space and Rocket Center Pat Ammons.

Everything focuses on a central theme.

"The forces of nature, and the forces of energy, so we have everything from the very popular earthquake bench to a tornado shelter that the local National Weather Service office created," said Ammons.

The exhibit has so many things and you can learn so much including how sand dunes are made.

"This shows the power of waves," explained Ammons. "You can make your own waves with this by tilting it and you can see it's kind of like having a little fun moment at the beach, right?"

Another exhibit involves a ping pong ball and a maze.

"So she's going to control where it goes based on which door she opens," said Ammons,

The magic planet is in the center of the room. It's an interactive, sphere-shaped globe which allows guests to see hurricanes in motion, airplanes navigate and how the Earth's climate works.

"It's a great way to illustrate some of the physical aspects of the forces of nature, so we have visuals which illustrate the 2004 tsunami that hit Asia," Ammons added.

And there is so much more. The exhibit prepares the way for the scientific discoveries of Archimedes, the "Father of Modern Science" and takes guests on a journey through history and science with a look at the machines of the ancient world.
