The United Way of Northwest Alabama is partnering with the Homeless Care Council for its annual Day of Action.
The partnering groups are collecting non-perishable food items through June 27th to give to those in need. Items will be divided into food bags and handed out at the annual Hydrate the Homeless events in the Shoals area.
"It gives us an opportunity to educate the public about what it means to be food insecure when you're homeless," said Homeless Care Council member Krista Manchester. "Often times the way people donate food is without a lot of thinking so this gives us a dual opportunity to feed people in need but also educate the public about what that looks like."
