Muscle Shoals teen set to compete at CrossFit Games

MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) - The annual CrossFit Games is set for July 19 in Carson, California. North Alabama will be represented by 17-year-old James Green from Muscle Shoals who is one of 10 boys qualified to become the world's fittest teen.

"I really don't know what to expect, but I know it's just another workout," said Green at his Hi-Temp home gym in Tuscumbia, Alabama. "It's just another workout, and get out there and do what I do best. I've trained for everything, and I've got to go there with no doubt."

James started CrossFit, simply by watching adult athletes on YouTube; his twin brother joined in and one year later James is the fifth-ranked teen CrossFit athlete in the world.

"We started working out in our garage at about 4:30 (a.m.), till 7:30 and go to school around eight," Joe Green said. "And we'd be barely making it through school. Get home at about four in the evening and go till about seven at night," he said.

James is the only teen in any age group from the state of Alabama to qualify for the games this year. And he couldn't do it without the family and community support in and around the Shoals.

"All my friends know. They are pushing me. I've got a lot of people that work out with me, who push me. I mean, I couldn't be more appreciative towards them. They help me a lot. A lot in the gym especially. Chuck, Kyle, coaches, they really want to get me there," said James.
