MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A gay rights group says Roy Moore is attempting to capitalize on the name recognition he gained "for harming LGBTQ people" in Alabama. Eva Kendrick of the Human Rights Campaign Alabama made the statement Wednesday shortly after Moore announced he was running for US Senate.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama lawmakers could remove language that disparages homosexuality from state sexual education policy. The House Education Policy Committee passed a motion Wednesday that would strike a passage from current Alabama education codes that says being gay is a "criminal offense under the laws of this state." The codes also say that homosexuality is not an acceptable lifestyle in the Alabama.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed Associate Justice Lyn Stuart to permanently lead the Alabama Supreme Court. Ivey announced the appointment Wednesday after Chief Justice Roy Moore resigned to run for U.S. Senate.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama education officials say they're investigating a series of mistakes after publicly releasing incorrect information about graduation rates in the state. The Alabama Department of Education acknowledged the error in a statement released Tuesday. The move came after some local superintendents complained that numbers posted to the state's website last Friday were too low. State Superintendent Michael Sentance says a number of mistakes were made.
