BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police in south Florida have arrested two people charged with capital murder in the slayings of a couple found dead in their home in Birmingham. Police say 23-year-old Zachary Taylor Phillips of Arab (AY-rab) and 30-year-old Kristen Leigh Gullion of Cullman are accused in the killings of 68-year-old Joe Holt and 67-year-old Mary Holt. News outlets report the two suspects briefly lived across the street from the Holts.

SELMA, Ala. (AP) - A prosecutor says an Alabama man had shot and wounded his adult son during an argument over chicken wings while they were watching football. District Attorney Michael Jackson tells 77-year-old John Louis Caver was convicted by a Dallas County jury of first-degree domestic violence on Tuesday after a one-day trial. Jackson said after the verdict that, "this must have been some really good chicken." The DA says Caver shot his son in the chest as they were watching an NFL game in 2016.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Texas-based Diamondback Energy Inc. is acquiring one of Alabama's largest publicly held companies, the Birmingham-based Energen Corp. The stock deal announced Tuesday is worth more than $9 billion. A statement says the transaction creates a company that will operate in the Permian Basin, which produces oil and natural gas located in west Texas and southeastern New Mexico.

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say five inmates who escaped from an Alabama jail have all been recaptured. The Marshall County Sheriff's Office tells news outlets in a statement the inmates used the Guntersville jail's ventilation system to escape Tuesday morning. The statement says the problem that led to the escapes was identified and corrections are underway.
