MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

You may notice more litter scattered along the roadways. Roadside trash is turning up more and more on Zierdt Road and Beadle Lane in Madison County.

Operation Green Team Joy McKee said there's a good explanation for it.

"Summertime litter I call it," McKee said. "Sometimes when students get out of school we see a little increase in activity with litter."

One comment linked to the issue states, "There is still trash being dumped roadside, mostly just loose trash, no bags."

"We're seeing more chip bags and fast food bags and soda bottles and those type things in that area," McKee said.

An area McKee said holds true that litter problems creep up in the summer time. It's a stretch of road that runs in and out of city, county and federal property.

"We've also had some illegal dumping that has gone on in that area, so we're currently trying to work and figure out who is doing that," McKee said.

Aside from littering being against the law resulting in fines, McKee said properly disposing of your trash will make a big difference no matter where you live.

Call 53-CLEAN to report litter or to organize volunteer groups.
