BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Senate killed an anti-discrimination bill aimed at protecting members of the LGBT community.

With a vote of 25-8, the upper chamber voted against sending it to the House.

SB 436, sponsored by Sen. Troy Carter, D-New Orleans, would have banned employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The bill faced pushback form business and conservative Christian groups.

Earlier this year, Gov. John Bel Edwards signed a similar executive order that applied to state workers and contractors.
