MONTGOMERY, AL (WAFF) -

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley said State Auditor Jim Zeigler has no authority to tell him to answer questions about a relationship with a former top adviser.

Bentley was a no show this week after the auditor told him to appear for questioning under oath.

During a visit to Hartselle on Friday, Bentley told reporters he has the power to do what Ziegler tried to do but the Alabama State Auditor was acting beyond what he's able to do.

Ziegler claims he does have the authority to force the governor to answer questions using a provision in the Code of Alabama that states the state auditor can require information be taken under oath touching any claim he is required to audit.

“He has no authority to do that. I have the authority to bring him, he has no authority to bring me,” said Bentley.

Ziegler has said he’s looking into his options after the governor failed to show up.
