RUSSELLVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Winning a state championship is the ultimate for a high school athlete. The possibility of winning two straight is beyond imagination.

The Russellville Golden Tigers baseball team may be having a better season than last year's championship run.

The 2016 edition of the Golden Tigers are 42-6, the most wins in program history. Up next, a rematch against the Alexandria City Cubs, a team they face in the state semifinals en route to their first ever state crown.

Russellville Head Coach Chris Heaps expects his team to continue to do the things on the diamond that’s equaled success.

"We think the key to being great is being good at the common things,” Heaps said. “Baseball is a bunch of ordinary things, that if you do them really, really, well, you have a chance to be really good at it.”

Games one and two of the best of three series is set for Friday. Game three is Saturday if necessary.
